July Currently

Happy first of July to everyone!  I hope your summer vacation has been more productive than mine!  I have a bunch of blog posts almost ready to go but can't seem to finish them up.  I also have dug into a few teacher books that I would love to write reviews on so stay tuned for those.

Also, I just found out many of the google follower features have been discontinued today so I added a follow me with bloglovin' button if you are looking for a new way to stay up to date with my posts.  If you follow through email or just stop by every few days than you should be fine.

I am linking up with Oh' Boy 4th Grade today for her July Currently

It has been raining every day here for over a week and it doesn't look like an end is in sight.  I guess it is a good time to catch up on the blogging I have been neglecting!

  1. Hi there! I have been listening to the rain as well here in Maryland. I wonder where you live? I love the idea of an endless summer...especially one where I don't have to grade papers...EVER! I stumbled upon your blog in July's Currently and I am your newest follower! :) Thanks for great advice in the tips, tricks, or hints! My family is my number one priority!

  3. I'm your newest follower :) If you find any good books, let me know? I can never seem to find a good one in the library, so I usually just rely on suggestions. I'm loving the creative side of summer vacation too :)

    1. Hi Erin,
If you teach grade 6 there are two teacher math books that you HAVE to read! The first one is called A Focus on Fractions by Petit, Laird and Marsden. It is an amazingly well written and illustrated with examples book. They took the latest research on how kids learn fractions and wrote the most teacher friendly book ever. You can tell that they used to be teachers because they really seem to get it!
The second one is Fostering Algebraic Thinking: A guide for teachers grade 6-10 by Mark Driscoll. A great book for anyone who has to teach algebraic concepts!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    2. Hi Erin,
For a sixth grade teacher, I would recommend A Focus on Fractions by Petit, Laird and Marsden. It is the best book about teaching fractions and it gets into some great research about how kids learn and what misconceptions they have. It is very readable as well.

    1. Thanks Nichole! I would love to send some rain your way. It has rained so much that my lawn is starting to look (and smell!) like a swamp
